Netflix to Recode its Video Library to Save Users Data
Netflix users don’t like moderation. According to the recent statistics of Sandvine, Netflix witnesses around 37.1% of traffic on streaming library and it is still counting. But how is it possible to reduce data usage without reducing the stream quality? Netflix has been working on it for several years. Now, they have cracked the code and they have technology to reduce consumption of data by 20%. It took several years to develop an approach named “per-title encoding” where they analyzed the title to figure out the encoding technique on its complexity.
Very intense action sequences need more data to encapsulate the information. On the other side, animation or some static landscape scenes require less data. So, they found the way to deliver better experience with less bandwidth. They are looking forward to expand their reach in countries having lower bandwidth where streaming often takes place on mobile data.
