Facebook can mark you even if your face is hidden

To the selected users, Facebook already provides face recognition that suggest the names of family & friends that emerge in your photo. Now the company decides that it takes the recognition one step forward.

As per the report of the New Scientist , now the company has developed a new software that can spot people even if their faces are hidden either they are facing away from the camera or something else such as a mask or fringe covering their faces. The software will rely on some other factors as an alternative to identifying the people, including the shape of their body, clothing & hairstyle.

The head of social network’s artificial intelligence told the New Scientist that there are many cues they use. People have some special characteristics aspects even if you look at them from their back. As an example, you can identify Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook very easily because he always wears a T-shirt of gray color.

The researchers of Facebook tested their software by downloading around 40,000 photos from flicker in which some are having the clear face while some others faces were hidden. After modification with the algorithm, they supervised to attain an 83% identification rate with the photos of the hidden face.

This technology could ultimately be applied into the photo apps of Facebook, most remarkably Instagram and the just launched Moments, which is planned for sharing photos of a specific event or get-together with friends.
