A popular Technology Group, Foxconn starts shipping and manufacturing from India. It has started shipping smartphones for US phone brand InFocus and China’s Xiaomi at its recent plant in Andhra Pradesh, taking a presumptuous step towards Digital India to make its next developed hub.

Vincent WH Tong, chairman of FIH Mobile at Foxconn’s phone manufacturing unit told ET that the world’s leading contract producer will rise the manufacture capacity of the plant, located in the state’s 7,000-acre Sri City special economic zone, and will bring it at equivalence with its developed units in other countries.

“It (manufacturing) has just started and is moving as we speak. Actually, compared to our capacities elsewhere, it is not that big a scale. In the long run, we intend to grow the facility further,” he said, deteriorating to statement on the amount of phones being prepared from the plant for InFocus and Xiaomi.

ET had informed in its 24 June edition that the Sri City unit will produce approx. 10,000 per day that is small compared with the larger unit in China of Foxconn. This plant has been set up at an investment of Rs. 77 crore.

Tong said the company is doing discussion about to multiple customers to construct phones from the same service, without contributing names of probable clients.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone leader has shared publicly about its plans to formulate phones from India but India head Manu Jain said that the company is still deciding its manufacturing plans, when asked whether it was getting smartphones made from Foxconn’s new unit.

US-based InFocus started advertising its M330 model priced at Rs 9,999 in India in March via an exclusive partnership with Snapdeal. The company spokesperson was not instantly available for statement.

Chairman Terry Gou said during a recent visit that Foxconn, the maker of iPads and iPhones for Kindles and Apple for Amazon, plans to generate at least a million jobs by setting up 10-12 manufacturing amenities in India by 2020.
