Windows 10 Update Breaks Office 2016 Settings Down
The latest cumulative update of Windows 10 is resetting Office 2016 configurations and breaking down the templates and macros. According to the posts on Community forums of Microsoft, when the users installed KB3124200 update, the autocorrect settings, templates and macros are no longer working. Word 2016 loads only default settings. A user revealed that he was using Word 2016 on Windows 10 along with a lot of autocorrects, macros and auto-text in Normal template. The template has vanished without any factory reset or his consent and he lost all the previous macros and settings.
According to Rob L, Microsoft engineer, the update actually renames the configuration file as Normal.dotm.old from Normal.dotm. Hence, Word 2016 loads default settings. It means all the content in Normal.dotm is no longer working on Word and a new clean file is created when Word shuts down. However, Microsoft explains how to fix the problem and get the renamed file back in a knowledge base post.
